Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba paid a heartwarming tribute to veteran actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, affectionately known for her role as Koko Mantsha on Skeem Saam, in celebration of her 85th birthday. The Premier, accompanied by her delegation, visited Mokgokoloshi’s home in Botlokwa, outside Polokwane, bringing gifts and a birthday cake to honour the actress, who has become a beloved icon in South African television.

Ramathuba expressed her admiration for Mokgokoloshi’s remarkable life and career, praising her contributions to the arts and her enduring influence on South African culture. The Premier emphasised the importance of cherishing and nurturing the elderly, saying, “We are proud of you for reaching this milestone, and we thank God for your life.” She also noted that Mokgokoloshi’s wisdom and life experience are valuable, and the government will continue to seek her counsel.

Mokgokoloshi, deeply moved by the Premier’s visit, expressed her gratitude, calling the gesture a blessing. “Growing old is a blessing, but being honoured while still alive is an even bigger blessing,” she said.
